What is it like to be a member

Many people play table tennis at work, at the campsite or in a community centre. But why wouldn’t you become a member of a club? Table tennis is an accessible sport to get in touch with each other.

Another great thing is that you can play the sport at any level. Do you think you’re not good enough? Nonsense! At Amsterdam ‘78, there are always people around who want to hit a ball with you. And are they by any chance of a higher level? No worries, because that can only make you better. At Amsterdam ‘78, membership costs are limited. You can play competitively, but that’s not necessary. We do ask you to do a bar shift twice a year. And if you want to help us as a volunteer: we’re always looking for them!

Want to get a taste of the atmosphere?

If you would like to come by to take a look, it is best to first send an email to info@amsterdam78.nl. Then we can see if there is someone who can accommodate you. You can also email us in advance with any questions you may have, for example about the playing options. It does not matter when you come by, because we are open every day: during the week only in the evening, but also during the day in the weekend. Once you are a member, you can reserve a table with other members or come by during our ‘open walk-in moments’ on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon. To help new members get to know other members, we offer the following options:

  • beginners training: discover the sport in an accessible and informal way on Monday and Wednesday evening. At the moment the training sessions are full, but places do become available every now and then. Check the training page for this.
  • ladder competition: a fun and easy way to get to know other members with a similar playing level. Every two weeks a new round starts in which you can join. Through the ladder competition app you indicate your availability and decide whether you want to play one or more matches. More information can be found on our ladder competition page.
